Aside from claims of Peter Hibbs being on Captain Cook’s Endeavour in 1770 …

– he was an Able Seaman on the Sirius, Flag Ship of the First Fleet, a Norfolk Island First Colony Land Grantee, Master of the Norfolk during Matthew Flinders’ exploratory circumnavigation of Tasmania. and an early Pioneer and Land Grantee of the Hawkesbury district in NSW.

Below are photographs taken in 2008 at the Bass and Flinders Centre at Georgetown Tasmania, the home of the replica of the Norfolk built for a 1998 Bicentennial re-enactment of the 1798 circumnavigation of Tasmania – Peter Hibbs was Master of the original Norfolk. The photographs include Katrina Christian great great granddaughter of Arthur James Byrnes and great great great great great (ie 5 gt’s) granddaughter of Peter Hibbs and Mary Pardoe – and featuring that glorious Byrnes red hair !
